Friday Parent Newsletter

Wow! It’s Friday already? Today we were introduced to an owl that reminds us that when we make wise choices, we are “Loving for Jesus.”

Be sure to ask your kids about the skit and who Walking Stick really was. (Grandpa!) All the characters from the skit will return on Sunday so you can enjoy a bit of what your kids did this week!

Sunday Preview – We can’t wait to see everyone on Sunday for the Musical and Barbecue. Remember to drop your kids off at 9:00 in their VBS classrooms. You'll have a great time hearing and seeing what's been going on at SonRock Kids Camp!

Mission Project Update – We have collected 479 items of food! Thank you so much. It’s not too late to bring additional donations on Sunday. They can be left as you come into the sanctuary.

VBS may be over, but the fun continues! We’d love you to join us .  .  .

The sun was shining and the kids were singing at SonRock today! Today we learned that we are “Forgiven by Jesus!” Our animal today was the raccoon. Raccoons are rascally and get themselves into trouble. When we ask God for forgiveness, we are given a fresh start each day!

Walking Stick fell down the ravine today! The campers are working together to get him out! Ask your kids about what the campers were using  to help him. (They were using their belts to pull him up!)

Special Reminders – It’s not too late to RSVP for Sunday. You don’t want to miss a moment of the fun! Plan to stay and enjoy a delicious barbecue after the service.

What a wonderful day we’ve had. Today we learned how we are protected by Jesus because He more powerful than anything! We are thankful for the bit of cooler weather we are enjoying! Be sure to ask your kids about Pastor Randy eating the worms this morning or maybe they joined him in a game of muck, muck, moose!

Monday Parent Newsletter

VBS begins at 9:00 sharp! Be sure to come early so your kids won't miss a minute of the fun!

Reminder - We will be tie-dying bandanas on Tuesday. As this might be messy, this would be a good day to wear older shorts and shoes just in case.

Heads up - There will be water games throughout the week. If your campers have plans right after VBS, you may want to bring a change of clothes.

Fourth Graders through Sr. High – Permission slips are due back Tuesday for the Wednesday swim party!

SonRock Mission Project – Children’s Emergency Food Bank – operated right here at JKPC! Each child brought home a list of suggested food items to donate this week. Our goal is to collect over 500 items by next Sunday!

Music - The kids received words to the songs they are learning this week. We encourage everyone to listen to the SonRock CD so the kids can learn the words to the songs they will be singing this week and on Sunday.

Bible Memory Verse

Preschool/Kindergarten
“God loves us and calls us His children.” (See 1 John 3:1.)

Elementary
“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” 1 John 3:1

Tell About It
Here are some questions to ask your child to review the Bible story and verse:
• What did Jesus ask Peter and Andrew to do?
• Why do you think Peter had the courage to follow Jesus?
• How does it make you feel to know that Jesus wants you to
follow Him?
• What does 1 John 3:1 say is the greatest way God has shown His love?
• How do we become God’s children?

Live It!
As a family, choose one or more of these activities to live out what your child is learning at SonRock Kids Camp.
• Place a bird feeder in a front- or backyard tree. Enjoy watching your fine feathered friends enjoy the banquet. Keep a log of the different birds you  see and take photos— being careful not to scare the birds away!
• Gather the family to take a neighborhood nature walk together. Place bracelets of masking tape (sticky side out!) on everyone’s wrists. As you walk, family members place interesting found objects on their sticky bracelets—small pebbles, wildflowers (Don’t pick! Just take flowers or plants found on the ground.), even dead insects might find their way to a family member’s wrist. And take along a trash bag in which to place any litter
found on your walk.
• Call or visit a friend or family member who is ill. Ask children to draw a picture or sign a card to cheer up the person.
