Children's Emergency Food Bank
The Children’s Emergency Food Bank is a local non-profit
organization serving Danville, Dublin, Pleasanton and San Ramon.
The Food Bank provides food for families in emergency situations.
Our intent is to be an emergency supplement rather than a ongoing
support to families.
The Food Bank is an all volunteer organization.
It was founded in 1969 at the request of nurses and teachers in the
various schools in the area after they became aware of children not having
sufficient food and/or money to buy lunches.
Our objective is to furnish canned and packaged food plus
certificates from local markets to obtain fresh foods.
This year the number of families in need has been higher.
The amount of food given depends on the length of their emergency and
the number of family members. We
try to give every family enough food for a week.
Vouchers are available twice yearly for fresh food.
We also have a Christmas giveaway which includes turkeys and hams
donated by Raleys.
As we have no paid staff and our food storage area is
donated, the only overhead we have is for our groceries, answering service
maintenance and telephone.
Our volunteers are on duty five days a week from 9:00 a.m.
to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Appointments are made with the volunteers. Volunteers meet with the
recipients at the Food Storage Building behind John Knox Church.
Over the weekends, if there is a real emergency, every effort is made
to take care of it.
Donations of non-perishable food and money to purchase
food, as needed, is always welcome.
We do not receive any assistance from either the Alameda or Contra
Costa Food Banks. We are a part
of Raley’s Food for Families Program and receive continual support from
them.
